FREEDOM & GRACE

Screenplay by Marian Oliker | Based on Oliker’s one woman play: “Mariama: A Tale of Freedom and Grace”

It’s 1964 and the fight for freedom is on. The American civil rights movement is in full swing, and Africa is on the brink of independence. FREEDOM & GRACE weaves the lives of Mariama - a spirited Muslim immigrant from Senegal who falls in love with ballet, and Rebecca - a shy Jewish girl from Brooklyn who, following the sudden death of her father, finds salvation in African dance. With a repertoire of African, swing, jazz, ballet, modern and soul, FREEDOM & GRACE is a celebration of dance...and of life.
